The voices of conservative politics (Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck) have take up the torch and pitchfork to tell us little people how the government is controlling us. How bad off we are, and how bad it is going to get (if Barack Obama is re-elected). And if you don't believe it, boy howdy do they have an example for you.
It seems that a little girl in North Carolina was the victim of some simple minded teacher that didn't understand how the program works. That's all that really happened. The teacher involved has been corrected, the family has been apologized to and everyone is getting on with their lives (except the GOP and their mouth pieces). Yes, the girl's lunch was confiscated. Yes, this girl and her mother were put through more inconvenience than they deserve. Yes, she ate chicked nuggets which were probably less health than her turkey and cheese sandwich. And yes, this girl has been made a pawn in conservative politics.
Here's the information (from Huffpost) that you wont hear from Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck or any other talking head sporting an obvious case of cranial-rectal inversion.
The North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten is a state-run enrichment program to help 4-year-olds at risk of starting school lagging behind their peers. Ninety percent of the children qualify for free or reduced lunch. This type of logic and the lies used to perpetrate it are at the very heart of Conservative Politicians.
The program has 1,100 sites serving 25,000 children and is required to supply a healthful lunch. The U.S. Agriculture Department defines that as a serving of milk, two servings of fruits or vegetables, one serving of grain, and one serving of meat or protein.
The federal agency had no involvement in the case involving a local school district and state supervision of nutrition policies, USDA spokeswoman Courtney Rowe said.
USDA does not "regulate sack lunches or any other food children bring from home to eat at school. That is a responsibility for parents, not the federal government," Rowe said.
